What was an institution enriching to society and its needs is an arm of religious power and the vast finances provide the state and its religious discourse with the authority to control discourses. The use of awqaf money to educate preachers, evangelicals and teachers, works to confirm this power into the future. Since it is one paradigm that is applied, one supported by the dominant conservative sheikhs and the state that chooses them, the financial power of waqfs, once a source for providing schools and hospitals of great learning, is today used to confine thought and channel interests into narrow power discourses. In this process, the original purpose from the vast awqaf donated is not honored, selling or exchange and acquiring of property by friends of the religious hierarchy have become the norm.
